College Board - Reston
Reston, VA
95,000 SF
NFP Organization

The College Board is a not-for-profit organization. Located in Reston, the 95,000 SF facility is comprised of four full floors and one annex.

An operational model was established early in the planning stages and implemented in phases over a two-year period.

The design focused on integrating clusters to facilitate operational workflow while establishing layout codes to enhance the environmental component. Daylighting was a primary concern where open office clusters were situated along the perimeter allowing for natural lighting to flood the entire space. Carefully located glass and glazing on perimeter rooms further enhanced the open feel of the floor. The open office clusters were interrupted with moments aimed at promoting a collaborative culture. huddle rooms, docking stations, hotelling stations, print stations were implemented in strategic locations to break up the monotony of the cube-farm. Special material, details, millwork elements and artificial accent lighting were used in spot locations to enhance nodes and special areas within the floor. Given a strict fiscal guidelines, it was critical that costs be controlled and balanced with maintaining an elegant environment. A light monochromatic pallet was used as the backdrop for accent nodes that created contrast points using color, millwork elements, accent lighting and furnishings. A2 Design provided full architectural and engineering services starting with early feasibility and organizational analysis all the way through construction management. A2 Design also provided sertvices for furniture design and selection, both case goods and modular furniture.
